A townhouse in Łódź, property of P.H.U. W. Lewandowski, a well-known manufacturer of hygienic papers, holder of the “Teraz Polska” (Poland Now) promotional emblem (www.lewandowski.com.pl).

Wiesław Lewandowski searched for a place where he could locate the headquarters of his company with a lot of involvement and reverence. His passion for history and interest in the monuments of Polish architecture made him choose a residence located in Łódź, in ul. Kopernika 5, that used to be the property of one of factory owners in Łódź – Ernest Wever. The owner revitalised the building with diligence, exposing its pre-war character and giving a lot of attention to every detail in the interior decoration. His work was appreciated, as the office building that has been renovated to perfection, won the 1st place and a statuette in a nationwide contest "Modernizacja Roku 2004" (Modernisation of the Year 2004) in the category of residential buildings, as well as 3rd place in a contest organised in Łódź, among others by the Piotrkowska Street Foundation under the patronage of the President of the city of Łódź, in the "Wnętrza budujące tożsamość Łodzi" (Interiors that Build the Identity of Łódź) category.

Ernest Wever’s residence was build around 1900, in the vicinity of a lace, ribbon and tape factory that was owned by him until 1925. Works on the residence were supervised by Fryderyk Miks, a technical engineer who was also the supervisor of the factory building construction. It is a one-storey, modest building, the form of which refers to the Secessionist style. It is characterised by windows of different shapes, including one closed with a full arch, with a tie beam in the lintel decoration. The dormer window situated under the top of the building, set on a tie beam with a plant motif is an interesting element. The building endured the World War 2 and in the years 1951-1994, it served as a factory kindergarten for “Lenora” haberdashery plant. In 2003, the building was bought by the “W.Lewandowski” company. At the time of purchase, the house was in a disastrous condition and it was definitely not fit for use. Only a complex renovation of the whole building, from foundations to the roof, rendered it usable again. Today, the house looks enchanting, not only because of its interior, decorated with passion and true involvement that shows even in the smallest detail, but also because of the shell itself, along with its surroundings that suit the factory-like character of Łódź.
