For bonding of natural stone cladding (e.g. marble, travertine, granite, sandstone and other) and artificial stone cladding, all kinds of ceramic tiles (e.g. porcelain, glazed, terracotta, stoneware, clinker tiles), concrete, cement tiles, glass and ceramic mosaics (excluding discolouring/dyeing-sensitive mosaics) and other tiles of different sizes, including large format tiles. Suitable for the installation of glass blocks and glass bricks. For use on standard (non-deformable) as well as critical surfaces (deformable, heated, terraces and balconies, internal and external stairs, building façades), other heavily used and heavily loaded areas. The adhesive contains cellulose fibres which improve mortar properties (stress transfer and viscosity), thicken its structure and prevent excessive water extraction from the product, which ensures correct bonding. In case of fixing stone cladding, it is necessary each time to test material resistance to discolouration each time. Intended for interior and exterior use.
Product is a Component of waterproofing system ALPOL HYDRO PLUS, ALPOL HYDRO PLUS T and ALPOL AQUA PLUS.
Package
Single: 25 kg bag / Collective: 1200 kg shrink-wrapped pallet
Examples of work sites
Residential buildings. Heavily used traffic routes and places with low, medium and high operating loads in public utility, service and commercial facilities, health care, offices, schools, hotels, railway stations, exhibition halls, shopping malls, warehouses, workshops, industrial facilities, etc. Dry places and places exposed to water and moisture inside buildings (e.g. bathrooms, showers, kitchens) and outside (plinths, walkways, arcades and gates). Surfaces with heating (under-floor/wall). Balconies, terraces, loggias. Spa facilities, reservoir and pool basins.
Substrate type
Properly seasoned and prepared traditional building substrates (cement, and cement-lime plasters, concrete substrates, cement floors, walls made of ceramic and silicate bricks and hollow clay blocks as well as of cellular concrete blocks) and gypsum plasters, stone, terrazzo anhydride and asphalt floors, gypsum wall blocks, gypsum, cement fibre and gypsum fibre boards, old glazed, terracotta and porcelain tiles, adhering, sound and stable paint coats, stable OSB boards (with thickness ≥ 22 mm) and reinforcing layers in insulating systems. Waterproofing layers of liquid polymer films (such as ALPOL AH 751) and polymer-cement-based sealing mortars (such as ALPOL AH 752, ALPOL AH 754).
Substrate preparation
Substrate should be clean, stable and sound. New plaster and concrete work should be set and seasoned. Old, loose, brittle and peeling material of poor adhesion should be removed. Chipped areas should be patched with ALPOL AZ 130 quick setting mortar or ALPOL AZ 135 levelling mortar. The substrate moisture for masonry and cement substrates should be < 4%, < 1% for gypsum substrates, < 0.5% for anhydrite substrates. Strengthen loose substrates with ALPOL AG 700 deep-penetrating primer. To reduce surface absorption, apply ALPOL AG 703 primer, if necessary. Remove impurities and coatings impairing adhesion from terrazzo and stone surfaces and treat them with ALPOL AG 700 or ALPOL AG 702 primer. To provide a bonding coat, apply a thin layer of adhesive on old tiles, after degreasing and roughening their surface, or treat the surface with ALPOL AG 702 primer. Gypsum substrates, anhydrite floor and gypsum fibre boards should be primed twice with ALPOL AG 703 primer. Apply not thinned ALPOL AG 708 primer on OSB boards cleaned of substances impairing adhesion (e.g. by machine sanding).
Instructions for use
Stir the bag contents manually or mechanically with a specified amount of clean and cold water to bring the mixture to the homogeneous and required consistency. Allow 5 minutes time and stir again. Apply the adhesive with a float or a spatula, making a thin contact layer. Then immediately apply a thicker layer of adhesive, shape it by spreading it with a notched trowel with the right teeth size and start laying the tiles. Inside the room, on non-deformable traditional building substrates, lay the tiles by pressing their mounting side against the substrate, and then move them slightly to the sides in order to position them in the desired position and for proper distribution of the adhesive (ensuring a minimum of 75% coverage of joined surfaces). In other cases of applications (e.g. outdoors, on surfaces with heavy traffic, in swimming pools, wet areas and other places exposed to water leaks) and types of building substrates, and in the case of large-format tiles, the tiles should be glued over the entire surface (e.g. by additionally patching the underside with an adhesive layer immediately before fixing to the substrate – the “combined method”). Since the adhesive does not slip, there is no need to use spacers. Do not soak the tiles before fixing. Position adjustment can be made within 10 minutes from fixing. Fix the tiles within max. 30 minutes from spreading adhesive on the substrate to avoid “skin effect“ on the surface. Use the adhesive within 3 hours from mixing with water. If the adhesive thickens in that period of time, stir it thoroughly again without adding water. Adding too much water impairs all adhesive characteristics, such as adhesion, floating and elasticity. Unused hardening slurry cannot be mixed with water again. Throw it away.
Tools
Mixer or low-speed electric drill, basket mixer, notched trowel, putty knife.
Working conditions
Work in ambient temperatures between +5°C and +30°C. Do not add any other agents to the adhesive. Protect the applied adhesive from excessive drying, moisture and frost.
Storage
Store in original, unopened packages in dry place – shelf life 12 months from production date. Protect from moisture during transport and storage.
Notes
The specifications and instructions for use are based on the temperature (23±2)°C and relative air humidity (50±5)%. The workability may vary depending on conditions. Becomes alkaline after mixing with water. Irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin. Appropriate eye, respiratory system and skin protection measures should be used. In the case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Keep out of the reach of children. Use water to remove fresh dirt or ALPOL AI 770 cleaner to remove hardened dirt. The manufacturer assumes no liability for damage resulting from unskillful or improper use of the product..
General recommendations
Do not lay tiles without joints. Choose the width and type of joints depending on the place of application and tile size. The cladding should be arranged in the way that allows any substrate expansion joints to be carried over the cladding surface. Always follow best construction work practices, observing health & safety standards and regulations.
